A Merseyside Company, Not a Visiting One
Merseyside is five boroughs — Liverpool, Sefton, Knowsley, St Helens and Wirral — and we work across all of them from a workshop inside the county. Most of the firms competing for architectural glazing work here are running the job from the South East, with a surveyor who visits once.
There is one technical point that matters more in Merseyside than almost anywhere inland, and it gets overlooked constantly: this is a coastal county. Properties along the Sefton coast from Crosby through Formby to Southport, and right around the Wirral peninsula, sit in a marine environment. Salt-laden air attacks poorly specified fixings, seals and finishes, and cheap powder coating fails early on an exposed elevation.
We specify for that — marine-grade fixings, appropriate coating systems and seals chosen for the exposure rather than the price list. It costs a little more up front and saves a re-spray in five years.

Our Work Across Merseyside
We have installed oversized structural glass rooflights, bringing daylight into the centre of a plan where no window could reach, and steel-look aluminium doors that give the slim black sightlines of true steel at a different price point. On the Wirral we completed Rockmount, an ultra-modern bespoke glass scheme, and the Raffe Residence, where a full-height frameless glass wall opens the property to the view.
The county is more varied than people outside it assume. Georgian and Victorian stock in Liverpool, large detached houses along the Sefton coast at Blundellsands, Formby and Birkdale, Victorian villas in Oxton and Birkenhead, and the Wirral's affluent west coast at Caldy, Heswall and West Kirby looking over the Dee.

Planning Across the Five Boroughs
Merseyside has no single planning authority. Liverpool City Council, Sefton, Knowsley, St Helens and Wirral each set their own local policies, so a design that passes in one borough is not automatically fine in the next.
Conservation areas are concentrated in exactly the places this work happens. Liverpool has the Georgian Quarter, Sefton Park, Woolton Village and the Grassendale and Cressington parks. Sefton has Lord Street in Southport, one of the grandest Victorian boulevards in the country, plus Birkdale, Blundellsands and Crosby. Wirral has Port Sunlight — a Grade II* listed model village where controls are unusually tight — along with Hamilton Square, Caldy and Oxton.
There is also extensive Green Belt across Sefton, Knowsley and the Wirral. In all of these, permitted development rights are usually restricted and full planning permission will normally be needed. Conservation officers are often more receptive to a clearly modern glass addition than to a brick extension imitating the original, because the new work reads as obviously new and is reversible.
What Affects the Cost?
Every project is priced individually, but the things that move the number most are consistent:
- Pane size. Cost per square metre rises sharply once panels exceed what two people can lift, because you are then into crane hire and traffic management.
- Frameless versus framed. Structural silicone jointing and minimal sightlines carry a premium over a framed system.
- Coastal specification. On the Sefton or Wirral coast, marine-grade fixings and a suitable coating system add a little and are not optional if you want it to last.
- Structure below the glass. Steels, foundations and groundworks are frequently a bigger share of the budget than the glazing itself.
- Access. A terraced property with no rear access is a materially different job to a detached house with a driveway.
